What We Do

At Paws and Boots for Good, youth take part in a structured training program where they work with carefully screened dogs from local families.

Over the course of the program, youth learn safe handling and training skills while developing confidence, communication, teamwork, and responsibility.

After the youth training course is completed, the dogs’ families continue the program, learning to work with their dogs during therapy visits that provide reading support to children and comfort to seniors and others in care.

This full-circle model allows youth, dogs, and families to do good together in the community.

Confidence for Youth, Purpose for Dogs, Good for the Community

Program Info

Youth in our program learn hands-on dog training skills by working with carefully screened dogs from local families. Through twice-weekly sessions, participants develop confidence, patience, communication skills, and a strong sense of responsibility while helping prepare the dogs to become therapy dogs.

Most of the dogs in the program belong to community families, giving youth the opportunity to build skills while helping others.

Success Stories

Our programs empower youth to grow in confidence, leadership, and compassion. From building life skills to training therapy dogs, each success story is a reminder of how powerful the bond between a young person and a dog can be.

"We loved the fact that Piper was engaged with students, and other dogs. She was always so excited to go to school and she has learned so much, and acts way better."

Carol (Piper) - Pet Parent

"This class has helped me have more patience - when I have Piper for and she is not doing what I ask her to do I have to be calm, patient and consistent."

Youth Trainer

"Thank you so much for giving the girls the opportunity to be part of the paws and boots program. I can definitely see an improvement with their obedience. I was pretty impressed with your organization and your leadership towards the kids. You run a beautiful program."

Nicole (Willow and Ruby) - Pet Parents

"I like being able to help others by training their dogs to make life better for them. This makes me feel happy and feel that people will respect me more and it makes me feel like a better person."
